Hello!

I have Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64-bit.

Every time I am running QuickDiag in either mode (Xspeed, Quick or Extended) and (even in Safe Mode), it hangs at the exact same file: C:\Windows\Installer\3ef7a91.msi

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/8db8de205e27bbff872eed3257bd286d227528eb947105567f8c634f215dc8ac/analysis/1445642526/

This is the error message: "Line 7859  (File "C:\Users\TMA\Downloads\quickdiag_2_07.06.2016.1.exe"): Error: The requested action with this object has failed."

Here is an excerpt from the QuickDiag log file:

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

hello do you still have this problem with quickdiag ?

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Yes, I still have this problem with QuickDiag.

The error message is still the same, but only the QuickDiag file date has changed;

"Line 7859  (File "C:\Users\TMA\Downloads\quickdiag_2_13.06.2016.1.exe"): Error: The requested action with this object has failed."

The problem file is still this: [22/09/2015 17:16:32] - C:\Windows\Installer\3ef7a91.msi : (Intel(R) Chipset Device Software - Intel Corporation)

Here is the file's MD5  9f39dc9027b92456016455a32b68478d

Thank You!

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello

As it's asked, do you stop your protections with the use of QuickDiag ? ( in safemode Avast works too if you have it )

Best Regards, g3n-h@ckm@n

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Yes, I stop my protections with the use of QuickDiag. I have Emsisoft Anti-Malware. I even uninstalled EAM, but the error persists. In Safe Mode the error persists too.

midimusicman79

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Thank you for updating QuickDiag, however the problem still persists, even in Safe Mode.

Now, the error message is this: "Line 7936  (File "C:\Users\TMA\Downloads\quickdiag_2_21.06.2016.2.exe"): Error: The requested action with this object has failed."

The problem file is still the same: C:\Windows\Installer\3ef7a91.msi

I have tried running QuickDiag from Windows Explorer/Administrator and from Desktop/Administrator and in Safe Mode/Windows Explorer/Administrator and in Safe Mode/Desktop/Administrator, but all to no avail.

Regards,

midimusicman79

Hello!

The problem still persists; now it is on line 7975.

I am sorry I forgot to include the MD5 for the above mentioned file, so I thought I should run a script with OldTimer's List-It (OTL) in order to provide you with MD5 for all the *.mp* files in the said folder, here it is:

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

hello

I'm surprised cause I only control and read msi files with quickdiag, not .msp files.....

$aList = _FileListToArray(@WindowsDir & "\Installer", "*.msi", 1)

You're the only having this problem, I don't have anymore returns from others users about that ....

Regards

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Well, like I mentioned before, I was not sure if this was the right file, so in that case, the right file would be this: 5f6db.msi in stead.

https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/372a68165332a6718f7e8c96d180d4079fde00e0fb43368809da5cf3ea677a96/analysis/1466763935/

However, this file does not have any signers. I tried to run it, but it would not run either, so it appears to be broken.

Here is the file's MD5  B3315DBDB28BD24D3AA4AC70566DCECB

Please note that the above mentioned log was a manual script which I ran with another diagnostic anti-malware tool named OldTimer's List-It (OTL), and not an excerpt from QuickDiag, in order to provide you with the MD5 codes for all the *.msi and *.msp files in the said folder, in case it could help solving this problem. I just forgot to include the OTL header, though.

Here is the list again, without the .msp files, leaving only .msi files:

OTL logfile created on: 23.06.2016 16.01.09 - Run 7

OTL by OldTimer - Version 3.2.69.0     Folder = C:\Users\TMA\Desktop

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

ok I studied them

you can delete 5f6db.msi, the package is corrupted , It won't never work anymore.

QuickDiag gave me the same message than it gave to you at the same moment , on the same file.

I tried to install it and Windows returned me an error message

all the msi files are signed and this not.

Regards

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Thank you for studying them, and for confirming that the problem lies in the file named 5f6db.msi itself and not QuickDiag.

As it happens, I also have another file named 9acb635.msi, which is equal in date/time, size and MD5, which also is corrupt.

[2015.05.08 07.17.50 | 010,526,720 | ---- | M] () MD5=B3315DBDB28BD24D3AA4AC70566DCECB -- C:\Windows\Installer\5f6db.msi

[2015.05.08 07.17.50 | 010,526,720 | ---- | M] () MD5=B3315DBDB28BD24D3AA4AC70566DCECB -- C:\Windows\Installer\9acb635.msi

As for deleting this/these file(s), you say can, not that I have to, so I choose to keep them for the time being, however come the end of July 2016, I am going to reinstall my OS with the MS Media Creation Tool and a DVD disc, in order to fix this problem on my part, outright. Then I will test QuickDiag again.

Thank you for QuickDiag, which is an awesome diagnostic anti-malware program! :)

Thank you very much for the help! :) The issue has been successfully resolved! :)

midimusicman79

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Happy for you :)

if you move them in another folder you'll be able to finish the diag in a good way :) ( quickdiag analyses the msi files only in this folder ( Installer ) , you can for example create a folder in C:\Windows\Installer with the name you want and put these files to keep them not so far and do again a scan with quickdiag , I think it'll go 'till the end :)

sorry for my english but I'm french and I use only what I learned at school since 1987, I never gone to England or a land where somebody speak(s) *?* english

would you like to send me back these two files in a zip that I can compare them using offsets reader ( Binary browser ), logically , if the md5 is the same , the offstes are the same

Regards :)

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

I am Norwegian, so English is not my first language either.

Done; wininst2.zip

Thank you!

Regards,

midimusicman79

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello thanks ;)

the files are , like I thougt , exactly the same.

the content of them is 10 280 Ko of zeros , just full of empty space , nothing else :D

Regards :)

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hi :)

studying your files gave me an idea (reading the offstes) and it helped me and now the bug is fixed and I thank you again

henceforth QuickDiag will jump over the corrupted files

Regards :)

Re: Bug report for QuickDiag

Hello!

Thank you for fixing the bug and updating QuickDiag; I can confirm that it does jump over the corrupted files, however now QuickDiag hangs at another file: C:\Windows\Installer\a0884cd.msi

This is the error message: "Error allocating memory".

Following the pattern from before, the actual error files would be these: C:\Windows\Installer\aaf275.msi and ab11370.msi

Here is the log excerpt from OTL:

[2015.10.21 18.52.50 | 002,310,144 | ---- | M] () MD5=61B05E160BB7CA2FE70F397665D8D2B5 -- C:\Windows\Installer\a0884cd.msi

[2016.02.10 16.59.33 | 339,910,656 | ---- | M] () MD5=5A189601292E964EA2263801BE7AF742 -- C:\Windows\Installer\aaf275.msi

[2016.06.03 12.18.21 | 508,448,768 | ---- | M] () MD5=3BAF7804E9F1BC8BB0B7CD77D1411C92 -- C:\Windows\Installer\ab11370.msi

[2014.12.01 17.50.46 | 006,073,856 | ---- | M] () MD5=77EB2793FBB99128160F9B3F6EB3741F -- C:\Windows\Installer\bc24c.msi

These files are not corrupted, however; it is their size which is enormous.

Let me know if you need more information.

Could you please fix this?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards,

midimusicman79
