As the subject says...

I've successfully removed Bing from Chrome and replaced it with Google.

I've removed Bing from Edge and replaced it with DuckDuckGo..

I think I've removed it from Windows 10. I've disabled Cortana (I think).

But after numerous attempts I've failed to rid Foxfire (normaly my preferred browser) of the pestilential Bing. It should be searching with Google. No other Search Provider is listed in it now. But every search shows as a Bing search.

ADWCleaner has just removed Ask --- but apparently it doesn't recognise Bing in Firefox.

Obviously I can and will use other browsers, but ADWCleaner was suggested as a way of removing Bing, so maybe you'll fnd the information of use.

Note: I copy-and-pasted the above from my post at Toolslib. Sorry if that's wrong; I'm new here.

Re: Cannot remove Bing from Firefox, even with ADWCleaner (this reposted from Toolslib)

Greetings,

I invite you to follow instructions given on this link in order to change your default search settings in Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-your-default-search-settings-firefox

Also, can you please share me the clean logfile from AdwCleaner?

To do so:

  • Launch AdwCleaner and then click on "Logfile" > "Clean" tab;
  • Double-click on the most recent logfile and copy/past its content on your next answer.

Thanks.

Regards.

Bonjour cocochepeau,

Thanks for your response.

First I should explain that in the last hour, I downloaded Malwarebytes (free) from Softpedia (http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php/4da55095eb250a3742025ebdcf058222/580a4e8d/13ebe/0/1?tsf=0

...and something was found and removed from Firefox. It wasn't named 'Bing' but Bing has now been removed.

I had previously tried changing the default search as shown in your link. But the only search provider listed was Google.

For your inspection, I've pasted the clean log file from ADWCleaner at the end of this post.

But first I'll paste in the log of the successful scan run by Malwarebytes. It will tell you more.  I'll separate the two log files with rows of asterisks. Firewall was disabled for the Malwarebytes scan of course---but not for ADWCleaner.

Thanks.

Rog'

Hello,

Thanks for the details, detections has been added to database.

Everything is ok now?

Re: Cannot remove Bing from Firefox, even with ADWCleaner (this reposted from Toolslib)

Hello cocochepeau,

Yes thanks, things appear to be good now. And I intend to browse this site often to keep up with things. When I buy a premium malware scanner it will definitely be Malwarebytes.

Best wishes,

Rog

Nice,

I'll mark this issue as resolved then. :)

Have a nice day!
