I just ran ADWCleaner at the suggestion of the Reddit Techsupport forum, and it removed a very valuable folder.

I found the folder in Quarantine, but I feel that this needs to be looked at further.

The folder that was deleted was a save folder for a variety of modded Minecraft games. There is an online community on Reddit where these games are discussed, and a standalone Launcher that downloads the games, mod files, and save files. The folder where these games and files were stored was removed completely by ADWCleaner.

FYI, this is probabably a mistake of some kind, or something worth looking into for clarity.

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Also, is there a faster way to restore files from Quarantine? The Restore function is incredibly slow.

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Hello,

Can you please provide us with AdwCleaner's logfile so that we will be able to remove it from the database or update our detections ?

You can write a script to restore many files at once. Just put one line per file to restore ( you can extract the lines from Quarantine.log file ) and use "Script" option in Quarantine manager. Put only the original location of each file in your script.

Regards,

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Hmm, okay so it sounded so simple.

Where can I find the Log File? That option is greyed out when I load ADWCleaner.

Also, I can't seem to copy lines from Quarantine. I can highlight lines individually, and I click on "ALL" lines, but can't seem to copy them.

And, FYI, there are thousands of individual files in Quarantine now. If I could restore the whole folder, it would be fast, but copying each individual line into the script is not a good solution either.

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Logfiles are saved into C:\AdwCleaner as "AdwCleaner[CX].txt" where X is a number.

Moreover, can you also upload Quarantine.log. Then I'll be able to write you a script to restore all your files.

Regards,

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

I would highly recommend a few improvements that would have prevented or minimized the difficulties I experienced.

1. Display the Log File after the Scan is done, so that it's more obvious what was found before Cleaning starts. My Scan didn't find any "Services" to clean so my GUI didn't change. Even if a display had appeared to indicate I should check all tabs before Cleaning, I might have avoided this problem.

2. Improve the Quarantine Manager so that you can more easily add items to be Restored, or allow users like myself to create a script file without typing in line after line. This isn't a problem when there are a very small number of items to restore. But I had 9,081 Files and 1,782 Folders in the FTB folder that was deleted. Even clicking the checkbox next to each item was not a realistic option with that many files to restore.

3. If it's possible, allow the user to restore each Folder that was deleted, in its entirety, instead of restoring every individual file inside the folder. If the threat is the Folder itself, why do I have to restore individual files?

I'm not sure how much help the Logfile will be, and I can't figure out how to attach a file, so I'm pasting the contents of AdwCleaner[C1].txt:

What might be more useful is to contact someone here: http://www.feed-the-beast.com/ where you can download the Launcher to see what is created inside the folder that was deleted.

They have a strong presence on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/

Please let me know what I can do to help you identify the issue and prevent this from happening to other people.

Oh, I was able to restore all 9000+ files finally. It took about 20 hours, but I am happy to report that everything is back to normal now.

Hello,

Would you please show us log named C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[C1].txt

Did you try to go to menu Tools - Quarantine Manager ? What is located there?

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

I just discovered that the Quarantine Manager did NOT return all the files that it said were returned. And all the files are gone from Quarantine Manager now. Not happy.

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Not sure about file restore function, but if you are desperate to recover files I have found this tool to be effective (I am not affiliated with them.) www.stellarinfo.com/partition-recovery-software.php

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

I moved it here because my problem a bit different than OP

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

ADWCleaner deleted a folder saved on my desktop. As per suggestions on this thread, I ran the Quarantine Manager to restore the files. It worked. Files restored and my pc is much faster now after Ive deleted all those adware.

Thank you for this product.

Greetings,

@terryberi78 Nice to see that AdwCleaner is working great. :)

Regards.

Re: ADWCleaner deleted a folder it shouldn't

Developers...you have a SERIOUS bug in this arena. I just spent a day helping a friend find his missing folder of valuable bird photos.

ADWcleaner removed them: from the three log files...

[-] Folder deleted: C:\Users\Owner\Documents\Birds

From his perspective: 1.5GB, 2000+ valuable bird photos including several weeks of work, all gone.

From my perspective: a painfully dumb bug :)

100% of the files are *.jpg or Thumbs.db files

Please fix this. Yes, I've already got his files back for him.

THANKS!

Pete

Greetings MrPete,

Can you please create a separated thread by following this link: https://toolslib.net/forum/new-thread/? It should be easier for us.

Thanks!
